Licensing

Draft for legal review. Not legal advice.
Try before you buy
You can download our paid plugins and extensions without an account and use them in full for 30 days. After that they keep working with nothing locked, but each time you open one a reminder that you are still evaluating shows for 30 seconds, and a note says the copy is not licensed. Buying a licence removes both.
Paid products: personal licence
When you buy a Kerf Audio product you get a perpetual, personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable licence. For personal use you may install and use it on every computer you own. The licence belongs to your account. Account › Licences has your key file, and Account › Devices lists any computers you activated online.
You may use the product commercially: anything you make with it is yours. You may not resell, redistribute, sublicense, or reverse engineer it except where the law allows.
Licences work offline. Download your key file from your account and open it in the plugin on any of your computers, or activate a computer online. Nothing checks in once a licence is added.
Your licence covers the version you bought and the next major version, with every update to both: buy version 1 and version 2 is included. A later major version is a paid upgrade.
Organisations
Use by or for an organisation beyond a sole trader needs the organisation licence, priced by the organisation’s size and turnover. It covers unlimited seats within that organisation.
Charities
Registered charities and charitable music organisations can use our products free under a charity edition, which we grant on request.
Education
Kerf Audio products are free to use in educational institutions: schools, colleges and universities. That covers teaching, learning, coursework and student projects on the institution’s own computers, for staff and students alike.
Ask for an Education licence and we will grant one to your institution. Its key starts with KERF-EDU and it is licensed in the institution’s name. To ask, use the contact form with the topic “Education licence” and tell us the name of the institution, your role, and roughly how many computers it is for. We usually reply within two working days.
